Our principles

Technology shapes how people communicate, build relationships and spend their time. These principles guide the decisions we make at Commly. They aren't marketing statements or promises of perfection. They are the standards we aim to hold ourselves to as we build the company.

We put people before engagement

We believe success shouldn't be measured by how long people stay online. Technology should help people connect, contribute and then get back to living their lives, not encourage them to spend more time than they intended.

We respect people's attention

Attention is valuable. We believe it should be earned through meaningful communities and conversations, not captured through design intended to keep people endlessly engaged. Every product decision should respect the fact that people's time matters.

We believe communities should have control

Every community is different. The people who build and manage a community should decide how it operates, how it is moderated and who belongs there. Our role is to provide the tools, not dictate the culture.

We believe privacy should be a choice

Some communities are meant for everyone. Others are meant for a small group of people. We believe community owners should have meaningful control over privacy, and members should always understand who they are sharing with.

We choose simplicity over complexity

Features should solve real problems. We avoid adding complexity simply because it is fashionable or because it increases engagement. We believe thoughtful, well-designed tools create a better experience than endless feature lists.

We build for the long term

Short-term growth should never come at the expense of long-term trust. Every decision should consider not only what helps Commly today, but what helps create a platform that people will still value years from now.

We will continue to question ourselves

Technology changes. Society changes. Communities change. Our principles will continue to guide us, but we will never assume we have every answer. We will keep listening, keep learning and keep improving, while staying true to the belief that social media should strengthen human connection, not compete with it.
